Military officer (Army captain, according to the Chamber's record), born on 21/03/1955. He was a city councilman in Rio de Janeiro (1989–1991), federal deputy for Rio de Janeiro for seven legislatures (1991–2019) and President of the Republic (term begun in 2019 and ended at the turn of 2023), elected for the PSL; according to Agência Brasil, he joined the PL on 30/11/2021 and ran for re-election in 2022, unsuccessfully. The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) declared him ineligible for eight years, counted from the 2022 elections, on 30/06/2023 (abuse of political power and improper use of the media, over the July 2022 meeting with ambassadors) and again on 31/10/2023 (abuse of political and economic power at the Bicentennial of Independence), without the periods being cumulated. On 11/09/2025 he was convicted by the 1st Panel of Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) in Criminal Case 2668 (coup plot) and sentenced to 27 years and 3 months of imprisonment; the conviction became final and unappealable in November 2025. Since March 2026 he has been serving the sentence under humanitarian house arrest, by decision of rapporteur Alexandre de Moraes.
